Members of Shiloh Seventh Day Adventist Church team up with Downtown Churches United
On May 27, Shiloh Seventh Day Adventist Church in Petersburg launched their new “Feed the Homeless” program. The ministry is under the auspicious leadership of Terri Smith-Seaborn.
Members of the set up their “kitchen” in the Farmer Street Park in the fifth ward section of Petersburg. The volunteers, along with Petersburg’s Farmer Street Fire Department, fed members of the various communities. The volunteers also gave out clothing.
Pastor Maxwell Ferguson and the members of Shiloh have joined ranks of Downtown Churches United of Petersburg to not only feed the homeless but to follow the teachings of Matthew 25:35-36, which begins: “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in”.
Smith-Seaborn and the members of Shiloh Seventh Day Adventist Church will be setting up their tent in various locations of the city one Sunday per month while waiting to use the Downtown Churches United facilities. The church would like to thank the Petersburg Parks and Recreation Department for allowing this event to take place and all volunteers for their continued support.
